EXPORT COACHING PROGRAM TESTIMONIAL
It was in early 2007 that we were introduced to ECP (Export Marketing Program),that is a program run by CBI. With an open mind, we joined the ECP and managed to pick some very important lessons from a comprehensive training in Rotterdam.
The marketing programs in the ECP platforms that were developed for our company then became our backbone marketing activities, not just to enter the EU market, but also markets in other part of the world.
We realized that the ECP/CBI program was not just an eye opener, but also very operational that can lead us in a much better way to do export marketing. The coaches of ECP is not just provide export platform expertise, but also other field of business including finance, costing and logistic to ensure that the companies will get comprehensive advise to be more successful in their business.
The other benefit from ECP will not stop in advising companies on the export marketing with tools or information’s, but the ECP also bring us to Ambiente fair in Frankfurt, one of the most important trade fair in the world. By participating in the Ambiente, ECP/CBI is not just guide us to the EU market, but also take our hands and walk us into the EU market.
For our company that relying our 95% of our sales to export market, joining ECP/CBI became one of our most important milestones in our business. For our candle business, we used to have a low season on January until June. But after sometimes with ECP/CBI, we manage to have a full capacity production all year long, and thinking for expansion.
Considering the result over times, we are so lucky and proud that we met ECP/CBI in the first place. So when ECP/CBI conduct some export seminars in Bali (in cooperation with BEDO), we came to join the seminar, where we met with BEDO. After getting to know BEDO better, we learnt that, like CBI, BEDO shares common core value with passion to help their member to be more successful in their business. These values are something that will differentiate BEDO from other business support organization. Under this understanding, we join BEDO membership in the hope that like CBI and BEDO, we could also share values that can help other to be more successful in their business.

What's benefit you have after join with BEDO?
Dear Ibu Erni/Mbak Dayu,
CV Maharani joined BEDO as a member since October 2010, we have been trying to explore BEDO’s facilities and try to get more benefit as a member.
One of their programs is Internship Program which we think that we need that because we don’t have any marketing person and we realized that we had to have it.
So we asking about this program more detail and luckily BEDO has 1 student at that time which came from Netherland, his name is Boris Bego and has good education background and some experience. After discuss it with Erni and Dayu then we invite him to come to have an interview, as this is non-payment program, we prefer that he also feels comfortable with his job while he’s helping me. One week after interview, he starts to work as marketing. We prepare his tasks then we reviewed it with him weekly. One of his jobs is creating face book for Maharani, uploading picture and look for a potential customer for us and follow it up.
Internship Program is very helpful whenever you need somebody for a position that you certainly know what the job is and this is free, or maybe you can give him something for his benefit, maybe meal allowance or transport allowance, or even nothing.
Now, Maharani has the second Internship who will continue to work on Marketing, her name is Franzi Eitle from Germany and she’s help us very much on her time to compile a catalog and to do sales analysis for Maharani.
For BEDO Team, we would like to say thank you very much for your great cooperation on helping Maharani growing to be different.

What's benefit you have as BEDO Member with join in IFFINA 2011?
IFFINA is our first participate in a national fair. It is good for Maharani to join IFFINA 2011 because besides for looking up a new costumer and having more networking, we also can learn and got many inspirations about a framework of the handicraft world in outside there. By joining booth with BEDO, there is so much fun, that we can fill in each other, and help to promote each other. There is another wonderful thing that we could be like a family under BEDO which we never know each other before.
Now, after IFFINA we still keep follow up some inquiries from buyer and improve ourselves to perform better on the next fair/expo with BEDO or by itself. Good luck for BEDO & Maharani! Together we can make a difference.

What's benefit you have as new BEDO Member with join in IFFINA 2011?
We at Bali Style magazine have long supported BEDO and all its activities, but it is only recently that we have become an official member of BEDO.
A useful, not to mention unforgettable benefit we have experienced immediately through our new membership in BEDO was our trip to IFFINA (International Furniture and Handicraft Exhibition) in Jakarta, March 11-14 2011.
BEDO, which is currently chaired by Ernie Margiono, supported us as a BEDO member by providing a booth at IFFINA where we were able to display and sell our product, free of charge. As a company that publishes a magazine (Bali Style), our presence at the IFFINA event was very useful for sharing and showcasing all that we do to promote products that have made Bali and Indonesia famous, such as stunning home ware and furniture as well as the “tropical modern” interior design style. In addition we were able to form new relationships and share ideas about how we can work together closely to increase profits both for ourselves and for any company/advertiser that aims to export.
As a new participant at the IFFINA exhibition this year, the invitation to maintain a booth, provided by BEDO at no charge, was a golden opportunity for us. We, along with several other companies, also members of BEDO, experienced a wonderful opening to work together in the promotion of our respective products to buyers and visitors. From the preparation for our departure to our return to Bali we enjoyed an amazing sense of solidarity and organization, thanks to BEDO. As a result each member has managed to increase sales, as generated from IFFINA 2011.
We look forward to new opportunities in the future to work together with other BEDO members for the increase of all our business plans and profits. Our attendance at IFFINA was just one rewarding experience, and we anticipate more to come, with thankfulness for the spirit of cooperation and cohesion that is fostered through the BEDO association.

How did you know about BEDO? Why did you choose to become a member of BEDO?
There was a seminar organised by Euro Bali to train on how to export. I decided I wanted to join. After Euro Bali ended we realised that it would be nice to receive training like this but more independently. We then decided to create BEDO and by some choice of fate, I become the First Chairman of BEDO.
What were the benefits of joining BEDO?
- Networking
- Give more self confidence
- Learn more about Design and share experiences with Designers
There are also better business opportunities and meeting high profile people like consultants, government’s representatives, etc. Moreover BEDO has helped me broaden my horizon and now I have a social program where I am working with disabled people.
Would you recommend BEDO to others?
I will always recommend BEDO to others. BEDO is a way to learn and share good or bad experiences. In every type of business it is important to join an organisation. But you have to keep in mind that in order to be effective you have to participate and share what you know.

How did you know about BEDO?
I saw an advertisement in Euro Bali advertiser about a special seminar. The subject was interesting so I decided to go.
Why did you choose to become a member of BEDO?
I think the concept of BEDO is good. It helps SME’s to develop in order to be export ready. As member you also have access to training, CBI programs, tradeshows, networking and information.
What were the benefits of joining BEDO?
Well, there is networking, sharing knowledge. There is a lot of information and training that I could access whereas before I couldn’t. In addition, I attended training programs on how to implement the Toyota way, how to run the business, etc. Moreover, thanks to BEDO, I was selected in the CBI Export Coaching Program (ECP). ECP is a great program and it’s really tailored to your needs. CBI helped me make an Export Marketing Strategy report; it’s like a personal bible. There is absolutely everything you need to know about your market (trends, competitors, etc). You also get to go to Europe for training and you get to attend tradeshows so it is an important asset for me as a person and also for my business.
Would you recommend BEDO to others?
I highly recommend BEDO to others and I always promote BEDO. People have to understand that BEDO is like a bridge. You are at one point and you wish to be export ready but to do that you have to really commit to that goal. BEDO helps you access that and show you the path that you need to follow in order to be export ready.
It is not always easy, and you have to involve yourself in the different meetings, trainings and you have to be willing to change. BEDO can be a bridge to other organisations like CBI who can help you to be export ready.

How did you know about BEDO?
I met Jeff at church and he invited me to one of BEDO’s monthly meeting.
Why did you choose to become a member of BEDO?
As I had just started my own business, networking seemed important and I could achieve that through BEDO. Moreover, financially it was interesting for me to join as I wouldn’t have to pay for the monthly meetings.
What were the benefits of joining BEDO?
First, it was the networking but also meeting people who are mentors to me. Jeff and Magg help me a lot by sharing their experience and advising how to handle certain situation.
Moreover BEDO is quite involved with CBI thanks to that. I went through some trainings with CBI in order to learn about how to handle workers, HR, etc. I have started my business 2 years ago, and all the knowledge and advice have helped me to grow not only as a person but also as a businessman.
I am now thinking about applying lean process to my business. I have contacted Mark Donovan and he has agreed to take me for a tour of his company in order to explain the lean concept.
Would you recommend BEDO to others?
I would highly encourage entrepreneurs to join BEDO. As a young businessman you can learn a lot as well as share different experiences which can only make you and your business better.

How did you know about BEDO?
I met Christian Fritz (one of the founders of BEDO) at a conference. He invited me to join the networking program, one thing led to another and I joined BEDO.
Why did you choose to become a member of BEDO?
I believe in the power of collaboration and sharing.
What were the benefits of joining BEDO?
One of the first advantages was the networking but as a company, the most important benefit I received from joining BEDO is lean philosophy.
At one point I was thinking about closing down the business and thanks to The Toyota Way I didn’t. Before implementing Lean philosophy my lead time was 2 to 3 months now I can respond to an order in days.
Wooden Ships has had 3 main shifts in business strategy since we started implenting lean:
- We changed from mass-production strategy to lean
- We worked with distribution centers but now we ship directly from the factory to client.
- We used to produce stock and now we are strictly made-to-order
Lean is about process and people. It’s a very effective and simple way to remove waste from any business process in the factory or office. Lean drives sustainability and long-term mutual prosperity. Implementing this new philosophy can be hard in the short term but on the long term you see the results and it’s really worth it. If your follow the 14 principals of Lean then little by little your whole production and strategy will adhere to the philosophy and benefit.
Would you recommend BEDO to others?
I would strongly recommend entrepreneurs to join BEDO but joining isn’t enough. You need to engage yourself in the organization, share your knowledge and experiences and seek out information, different philosophies and try some new things!
